Grandes Moagens de Angola guarantees wheat imports until September

Wheat imports to Angola are assured for the next five months. César Rasgado, member of the Board of GMA, says that “the import of enough wheat is guaranteed so that there are no ruptures in the national market”.

Grandes Moagens de Angola (GMA) recently closed an agreement with the French Producers Cooperative for the import of wheat to ensure the amount of raw material needed to supply the Angolan market with flour until September this year.

César Rasgado, director of the company, states that “with this negotiation, GMA has guaranteed the import of enough wheat so that there are no ruptures in the national market for five months and that the raw material now assured can also be used by the partners. and associates of APFTA [Association of Wheat Flour Producers of Angola]”.

The GMA representative explains this flexible market stance, “given the wheat shortage and impact on the final price of bread – and because satisfying consumer needs is and will continue to be the company's number one objective”.

The company also affirms its availability, “together with the Government and other partners in the sector, to analyze a set of measures that contribute to the stabilization of the final price of bread, a commodity of first necessity”.

Possible solutions may include subsidies or subsidies, as well as possible tax relief.

It is recalled that GMA's main activity is the production of wheat flour and an installed capacity to produce up to 280,000 tons of flour per year and that the support to national production, by guaranteeing the flow of products manufactured in Angola and the work together with companies in the sector, has been the main objective of GMA in recent years in order to contribute to the self-sufficiency of the Angolan market.
